Ho, Oct 28, GNA - The security agencies in Ghana are to stage mock election security operations to test their readiness to deal with any security problems that may arise during the December 7 election. The aim is to be ready to deal swiftly with any such situations without creating unnecessary panic and confusion among the public. Lieutenant-Colonel Emmanuel Kotia, Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, said this when he briefed newsmen in Ho on Tuesday on the upcoming exercises.

He said the exercises to involve officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) and heads of security agencies at all levels of command would take the form of a daylong brainstorming on November 7 to be followed on November 16 by field operations around some scenarios in selected constituencies throughout the country. Lt Col Kotia urged the media to cooperate in securing free, fair, transparent and peaceful election as had been the case since the inception of the fourth republic.

"The country stands to gain when the culture of rule of law and democratic governance become the rule in the country," he said. 29 Oct 08
