A thirty-four-year-old woman, known only as Salma, is in the grips of the Kotobabi Police for slashing one of the hands of her son on suspicion of stealing.

Baba Salisu, 12, had the shock of his life when his biological mother slashed his hands without provocation on Monday.

A source, who was at the scene told DAILY GUIDE that in the early hours of Monday, November 26, 20012, a boy rushed in with blood-stained uniform while he was standing in front of the Newtown Timber Market.

The source indicated that the boy shouted “she wants to cut me ooh! She wants to cut me” in Hausa language.

When the little boy was about to narrate the incident to the source, the senior brother of the little boy emerged with one hand almost chopped off.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic where he was treated and referred to the Ridge Hospital.

However due to the severity of the cut, the hospital also referred him to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the Kotobabi Police station, the police were tight-lipped on the matter, saying there was no motive to harm the boy so they were not interested in the publication of the story.

The Kotobabi Police therefore refused to give further information on the suspect as well as the incident. Meanwhile, the mother of Salma told DAILY GUIDE that the suspect only scared the boy to give her back the money he supposedly stole.

She said when the suspect threatened to chop off his hand, the victim, who according to her sustained a minor wound, held the knife but the mother pulled it through his palms.

She revealed that Salma had been granted bail but she was yet to come home, noting that the boy’s father, who lives in Kumasi, took custody of the boy after he was discharged by the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday.

But the source said the victim could still be hospitalized, adding that the grandmother was trying to downplay the severity of the cut.

“This woman must not go scot free,” he averred.

He stressed that the suspect sharpened the weapon she used in committing the diabolic act three days before the incident.

He said on that fateful day she claimed her GH¢20 was missing.

On Monday when the victim set off to school, she sent the younger brother after him.

The two boys came back to meet their mother, who was furious.

The little boy watched helplessly as the mom callously slash the brother’s hand. He however managed to run to the source.

Salma, a petty trader, does not receive support from the father of the kids.
