Former Attorney General Ayikoi Otoo has said President John Mahama has injured his reputation by granting remission to the Montie three.

The President in a statement Monday granted remission to the three individuals who were given a four-month jail term by the Supreme Court for contempt.

“President John Dramani Mahama has, in consultation with the Council of State and in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the Constitution, remitted the remaining prison sentence imposed on Salifu Maase, Alistair Nelson and Ako Gunn,” portions of the statement said.

Speaking to Starr News on the development, Mr. Ayikoi Otoo said the contemnors and their supporters were sure the President was going to pardon them from the on start.

“It is very clear that these are NDC operatives and they were sure that the President would do that (pardon them). Consulting the Council of State made no difference.

“If the President wants to be seen as an NDC President, he should go ahead and do that. Those words that they have added to the statement about him cautioning people, they shouldn’t have added that. If he wanted to caution people, he should have allowed them to serve their sentence,” he stated.
