Techiman (B/A) March 21, GNA - A total of 1,448 cases of HIV/AIDS were recorded at the Holy Family Hospital at Techiman in Brong Ahafo between January and June last year.
Two hundred and three of the cases were patients, whilst 1,245 were blood donors.
Mr. S. Agyeman-Badu, Techiman Municipal HIV/AIDS Focal person disclosed at a workshop for 23 farmer groups of Ecumenical Association for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (ECASARD) at Techiman. He noted the increasing spread of the pandemic in the region and appealed to, especially the youth to avoid casual sex or use condom to be on the safe side.
Mr. Agyeman-Badu said the Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Health Service had identified sex workers and had been supplying them with condoms every month.
The focal person called for concerted efforts to emulate countries that had adopted successful strategies in curbing the spread of the pandemic.
Dr. King David-Amoah, National Coordinator of ECASARD asked the participants to disseminate the information they had gathered about HIV/AIDS to others who did not attend the workshop. He commended the government for making available Hypoplus drugs to people living with HIV/AIDS.
