Accra, Nov. 1, GNA - Six organisations on Thursday made donations worth millions of cedis in response to a nation-wide appeal by the government in aid of the flood victims in the north. The companies were the Africa West Area of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, the Korean Embassy, Ghana National Association of Teachers, the Iranian Red Crescent, the Ghana Association of Tailors and Dressmakers Association and the National Investment Bank. Mr. Daniel Yirenya-Tawiah, Area Welfare Manager of the church who donated 1,025 bags of rice valued at 16.4 million cedis, mosquito nets and farming tools said funds had been provided through the church's charitable organisations to send additional humanitarian supplies to the flood victims.
He said the church was touched by the plight of the flood victims and that it had put measures in place to ensure that the items were distributed in three days.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea made a donation of building materials worth 50 thousand dollars while the Ghana National Association of Teachers presented a cheque for 50 million cedis. The Iranian Embassy on behalf of the Iranian Red Crescent presented 2,500 bags of rice valued at 6,000 dollars while the National Investment Bank made a presentation of assorted clothes valued at 11, 327,000 million cedis. The Ghana National Association of Tailors and Dressmakers donated 20 million cedis.
Nana Obiri Boahene, Minister of State, Ministry of the Interior who received the items pledged the government's commitments in ensuring that there was equity in the distribution of the items. He appealed to other organisations and individuals to support the flood victims. 01 Nov. 07
