Between 200 to 300 jobs are to be created in the Tolon/Kumbungu District of the Northern Region after the scheduled rehabilitation and expansion of the Golinga Irrigation Dam.

The central government and the district assembly will provide funding for the project, Mr Bukari Baako, District Chief Executive, announced at separate durbars of the chiefs and people of Nyankpala.

Mr Baako, who was on a two-day visit to the area, said the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) was assisting the assembly to put the irrigation dam back to full operation.

He said the government's pledge to create more jobs was not a mere lip service but a pragmatic programme that was being vigorously pursued to make its campaign promises a reality.

Mr Baako said two new primary school blocks would be built at Galinkyiegu village and Nyankpala to replace the mud buildings, which posed a threat to the lives of both pupils and teachers.

Mr Baako appealed to the people to reciprocate the assembly's gesture by enrolling their children in school.

He said more feeder roads would be constructed to link the farming communities to the urban centres to promote the marketing of their farm produce.

Mr Baako appealed to rateable persons in the district to pay their taxes to enable the assembly to carry out its development programmes.

Alfa Mahama Alhassan, NPP Constituency Chairman and Mr Fuseini Issifu, Nyankpala Zonal secretary of the party, appealed to the people to forget their political differences and unite to develop the district.
