At least 70 women have received training to drive buses run by the Metro Mass Transit Company Limited, which is popularly known as “Kufuor” bus.

The women were taken to La Cote d’Ivoire to receive formal training.

This was disclosed on TV3’s Midday Live on Monday by Eric Boadi-Misa, the Communications Director of the Company.

“They are even better than some of the drivers you see on the streets,” Mr Baodi-Misa observed.

Established 10 years ago, the Company has so far imported 1,019 buses with 700 said to ply 423 routes per day across the country.

Efforts have since been put into rebranding the services rendered by the Company.

“We are trying to tell the public that we are safer than we used to be,” said Mr Boadi-Misa.

He said recruiting female drivers was one of the rebranding measures introduced.

“[The women drivers] are not daring. The men will dare to go through certain things. The women won’t dare and every time [passengers] see the women behind the steering wheel, they feel very much comfortable.”
