Moslem leaders to help fight corruption

Moslems leaders in the Eastern Region have promised to use their platform to fight corruption.

This came out during an interaction between the Moslem leaders and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) in Koforidua.

Speaking at the meeting Mr Richard Quayson, a Deputy Commissioner for CHRAJ, said corruption in the country started when parents hiding in the room told their children to tell visitors they were not at home.

Mr Quayson said children picked this corrupt attitude unknowingly and pleaded with parents to put a stop to this practice.

He said people listened to religious leaders more than politicians and appealed to religious leaders to use their platform to help fight corruption.

Ms Sandra Arthur, Programmes Director at the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), said religious leaders had good delivery skills and urged them to include messages that threw more light on corruption and its negative tendencies on society.

She urged the Moslem leaders to help promote good values and acceptable behavior.
