?Mother of Antwerp? is dead

The late Madam Comfort Adjubi, aka ?Mother of Antwerp?, died in Antwerp on Sunday, 7th August 2005 after a short illness. Comfort Adjubi, who was born 55 years ago (3rd March, 1950) at Akim Ayirebi (near Akim Oda, Ghana) was an ex - Police Officer in Ghana and was stationed in Accra. She had the rank of Sergeant and served on sensitive detective work in the Fraud Investigations Unit, looking into the affairs of prominent institutions like the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana National Lotteries. She was due to be promoted to Inspector when she resigned and traveled to Italy in 1984. After a year there, she moved to Belgium and lived for the past 20 years in Antwerp.

In Belgium, she was a prominent member of the Ghanaian community organizations like the Baako Ankonam Association, becoming their representative to the umbrella organization, ?National Federation of Ghanaians Resident in Belgium? (a.k.a. GHANABA). She was also the driving force and a founding member of the Old Timers? Association in Antwerp. She was very prominent in the activities of these and many other organizations, even to the extent of representing the Ghanaian community to make a presentation during a visit of the former president of Ghana to Belgium in November 1998.

She helped promote the Ghanaian culture through her work in many organizations such as the Protestant Social Centre, which assists new African immigrants to better integrate into the Belgian society.

Madam Comfort was very religious. She contributed in the building of her mother church; Salvation Army at Akim Ayirebi. She was an active member of the Pentecostal Revival Church in Antwerp and in recognition of her contributions, was promoted to the status of Church Mother and Deaconess in the church.

The love she showed and the help she gave to many Ghanaians in Belgium and to humanity in general will not be easily forgotten. She left behind four children and five grand children.

The family, her Association and Church Members as well as the Ghanaian umbrella Organisation ?GHANABA wish to invite all to mourn with them at the final funeral rites, arrangements of which are to be found in the Ghanaweb classifieds/deaths & obituaries section.
