A woman on Tuesday broke down in tears when an Accra Circuit Court remanded her unemployed son who attempted to rob two students of their mobile phones at knifepoint in their hostel near, Madina.

The woman whose name was not readily available could not hide her tears when she saw the Police handcuffed her son and whisked him away.

The son, Prince Adu-Gyamfi is alleged to have inflicted knife wounds on the face and shoulders of the complainants in his bid to rob them.

Prince is currently facing charges of unlawful entry, causing harm and attempting to commit crime. He is to reappear on February 28.

He pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh.

Earlier, Defence Counsel Mr Abdul Gafar, prayed the court to admit his client to bail because he was young, has a fixed place of abode and had his parents and other relations who are of substance to stand sureties for him.

According Mr Gafar, Prince had never jumped bail and he had no capacity to interfere with investigations or processes.

Prosecuting, Superintendent of Police, Patience Mario opposed the bail application because the hostel was still open and accused could go and harass students there.

Supt. Mario said Prince is a threat and need to be kept, and examined and also he was a flight risk.

The facts as narrated by Supt. Mario were that the complainants were Sandra Aba Nunoo and Eunice Osei, students of University of Professional Studies, Accra and Institutes of Languages respectively.

The Prosecution said Sandra and Eunice resides at Goodwill Hostels, at Madina whilst Prince resides at Madina Zongo.

According to the Prosecution, on January 31, this year, at about 14:15 hours, Prince went to the second floor of the complainants’ hostel and attacked the complainant with a knife in an attempt to dispossess Sandra off her Infinix mobile phone valued at GHc450.00.

In the process, Prince inflicted knife wounds on her face as she shouted for help.

The Prosecution said the accused then attacked Eunice who came out from the next room when she heard Sandra screamed in other to aid her.

According to the Prosecution in an attempt by Eunice to prevent Prince from escaping, the accused person stabbed Eunice in the shoulder.

Luck however eluded Prince when witnesses apprehended him.
