Motor bike rider, Ivorian woman remanded

The Half-Assini Magistrate Court has remanded in prison custody a motor bike rider and an Ivorian woman at the Elubo border for two weeks, for dealing in narcotic drugs, pending a forensic examination report.

The plea of the motor bike rider, Molo Fofana, 54, and Diagne Coumba, the 44-year old Ivorian woman, were not taken, and they would re-appear before the court on September 9.

Prosecuting, Police Corporal Richard Amoah, told the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu that on August 16 customs officials at the Elubo border on their normal duties spotted Fofona on an Ivorian registered motorbike with two big boxes.

The prosecution said when the boxes were searched, it was discovered that 18 parcels of dried leave suspected to be Indian Hemp, concealed under quantities of sachets of Totapacks Gin drink were in the boxes

Cpl Amoah said Fofana was conveying the items from Elubo in Ghana to Noe in Cote D’Ivoire border, and was arrested and handed over to the Elubo Police for investigations.

He said Coumba later went to the police station to claim ownership of the items, and she was arrested.

Cpl Amoah said Coumba told the police that she contracted Fofana to cross the border with the goods from Elubo to Noe for a fee of 15,000 CFA France.

He said the exhibits had been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
