Navrongo(UER), May 21, GNA - The Navrongo War Memorial Hospital on Thursday expressed concern at the increasing number of motor cycle accidents in the Kassena Nankana District.
The hospital has for the first quarter of the year treated 126 victims of motor accidents as against 20 cases last year. Mr. Kofi Konlan, Hospital Administrator who was briefing the Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo during a working visit to the Hospital, said many of the victims with injured limbs were referred to the Techiman Hospital, which had a resident Orthopedic Surgeon. He said even though accidents happen, the first quarter of the year had been an exceptional one and appealed to the Minister to help sensitize the youth to take life more seriously. Mr. Woyongo attributed the increase in accidents to reckless riding and sometimes lack of experience.
He suggested that the hospital liaise with the local radio stations to educate the youth on the need to learn to ride properly, go through testing and obtain genuine license, and the importance of using a helmet.
He assured the hospital staff that the uncompleted buildings on the hospital grounds would be finished soon to provide accommodation for the various wards and units. Mr. Woyongo had earlier on inspected a 12 compartment Mortuary Refrigerator that was rehabilitated at a cost of 9,000 Ghana Cedis after it had broken down five years ago. 22 May 09
