Mountcrest University SRC Executives sworn into office

The Management of Mountcrest University College (MUC) has officially inaugurated a four-member Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Executive to steer affairs for the 2015/ 2016 Academic Year.

The newly inducted Mountcrest SRC Executives include Mr James Afedo, President; with Miss Daisy Oppong as Vice President; Miss Phoebe Anyidoho as General Secretary, and Mr Kelvin Addo Danquah Asamoah being the Financial Secretary.

Mr Kwaku Ansa-Asare, Founder and Rector of MUC, who inducted the new Executives into office, urged them not to regard themselves only as the mouth piece of student struggles, but also as individuals who were preparing themselves to take the mantle of leadership in society.

He noted that the inauguration should not signal the end, but rather mark the beginning of greater achievements; adding “we hope that you will be constructive in your dealings with Management to uplift the image of Mountcrest University College to greater heights”.

Mr Afedo on behalf of his colleagues expressed his gratitude to the Management of the University as well as the entire student body for their support and the honour done them.

He also underscored the need for students to cultivate the spirit of belongingness and oneness, particularly, in partaking in all activities organised by the SRC.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Afedo said his administration would bring on board all aspirants who lost the election to serve on the various committees of the SRC, adding that “because the school is made up of matured people the election was extremely competitive and there is a need to bring my competitors on board”.

The SRC President said he was hopeful that his administration would have productive and constructive engagement with the Management of the University, to achieve a common goal.

Speaking on forthcoming projects; he said as students studying to become lawyers, it was appropriate for his administration to introduce initiatives such as ‘Moot Court Competition’ in their faculty; which aims at preparing future lawyers on how to argue their cases in court, how to present cases, how to undertake rebuttals of arguments, among others.

Mr Afedo said they intend to also introduce a national moot court competition, where all the law faculties in the country would compete for the best in terms legal argument.

The SRC President noted that Ghana would soon mark its 104th anniversary of the introduction of English Law in the country, and as such, the SRC would host its SRC Week Celebrations in some few months’ time to coincide with the occasion.

He said as part of the celebration, the SRC would be organising series of lectures, debates and analyses on how English law was introduced and how it had helped in the development of the legal profession, as well as democracy in general.
