Accra, March 2, GNA - Mr Ben Amoabeng Peprah, National Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), has been elected National Chairman of the Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council (GRTCC).
He polled 37 votes as against four by Matthew Hayford, the incumbent Chairman, at an election supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission in Accra on Thursday. The position of Treasurer was keenly contested by Mr Benjamin Darbah Ewusi and Mr Charles Antwi Bawuah, with Mr Ewusi winning with 21 votes as against 19 polled by Mr Bawuah. Mr George Baffour Afriyie also polled 27 votes to beat the incumbent Second National Vice Chairman, Mr Bashir Bakry Maquas who had 12 votes.
The positions of General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary and Financial Secretary were taken unopposed by Alhaji Aliyu Baba, Mr Andrews Kwasi Kwakye and Mr Eric Yaw Agyei respectively. Speaking at the function, Mr Edward Kwakye, Director of Transport for Global Haulage Company advised the new executives not to lord it over their subordinates but to go about their work with diligence and humility. He urged transport organisations to organise regular refresher courses for their members to keep them abreast with the changing times.
ACP Victor Tandor (Rtd), Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission, advised the executives to be transparent and faithful in their dealings with members of the Council. He urged members of the Council to also forge ahead in unity so that collectively they could achieve set goals. Mr Peprah the National Chairman-elect, thanked members for the confidence reposed in the incoming executives and urged all and sundry to put their shoulders to the wheel to help the Council achieve its objectives. 0
