The Deputy Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor has asked Parliament to, as a matter of urgency, disclose the cost of the recently purchased ‘China’ furniture.

Parliamentarians this week returned from recess to a sparkling Chamber with new set of furniture, mirror-polished desks fitted with hi-tech gadgets and colourful carpets imported from China.

One would have expected that since they are new, they should work 100%. However, there are evidences of some chairs breaking down and improper functioning of some of the hi-tech gadgets.

Even though it is public knowledge that the refurbishment of the new chamber was from China, the cost of the entire contract is not yet known.

It is in view of this that John Jinapor during a panel discussion on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ demanded that the Speaker of Parliament, Doe Adjaho discloses the amount involved in the refurbishment.

This according to the Deputy Minister will prevent any rumour mongering.

“Right from day one, we should have been told the cost of the contract. On the first day they resumed sitting, the speaker should have made that known…Parliament is a symbol of democracy and so within parliament, things must not delay because that will or can raise suspicions. We will urge the speaker that as a matter of urgency, we should know the cost of the furniture” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of the show on Friday.
