Accra, Feb 18, GNA - The death is reported in Accra of Mrs Regina Ayerko Apotsi, the immediate past Judicial Secretary of the Judicial Service of Ghana. The death occurred on Friday, January 9, 2009 after a short illness. She was 62.
A statement from the Judicial Service, signed by Mr D.K. Kwapong, Director of Communications, said the late Mrs Apotsi worked at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General's Department as a Chief Director. She also worked at the Head of the Civil Service as a Director and at the Ghana National Commission on Children, on secondment. Other departments that she worked with were the Scholarship Secretariat and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
Mrs Apotsi, according to the statement, was the first woman to be appointed as a Judicial Secretary, on December 1, 2004 and retired in April 2006, but due to her outstanding contribution during her stewardship as Judicial Secretary, she was appointed on contract for a period of two years. She finally retired after the end of the contract in April 2008. The President approved of her appointment as a member of the Public Services Commission until her death in January 2009. Mrs Apotsi was the wife of Mr Nathaniel T. Apotsi, Special Advisor, MTN, and mother of Adamtey Apotsi, Prudential Bank, Ghana; Mrs Mateko Okantey, Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, Tei Apotsi, e-toys and Natalie Korkor Apotsi, Scancom Limited. Burial and funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, Somanya.
