Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa has said former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe will forever remain a pan-African icon irrespective of his sad exit from the reins of power.

“I can safely predict that history will be kind to him; posterity will judge him fairly” he told Kasapa 102.5 FM Wednesday.

The Zimbabwean leader ended his 37-year long rule Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

The news sparked wild celebrations across the country late into the night.

The announcement that the 93-year-old was stepping down came in the form of a letter read out in parliament on Wednesday, abruptly halting impeachment proceedings against him.

Commenting on the wind of Political change in the Southern African nation, Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa said although the development is a blight on the political life of Comrade Mugabe, the transformation credentials of the Zimbabwean leader are solid.

“If you look at his era, he managed to achieve the highest literacy rate in Africa- over 90%. No African country has been able to achieve that.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa has urged President Nana Akufo Addo to grant Robert Mugabe asylum in Ghana.

“He worked here in his youthful days and this is where he trained as a liberation fighter inspired by Dr Kwame Nkrumah and I want to suggest that President Akufo Addo should extend an invitation on humanitarian grounds to offer Ghana as a safe haven. I do not believe that the way things are quiet uncertain and chaotic it would be good to leave comrade Mugabe in Harare.”
