Gomoa Okyereko (CR), July 14, GNA- The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa, Ms Joyce Aidoo, has cut the sod for a multi-purpose educational institution at Gomoa Okyereko near Winneba. The project comprises a nursery, basic school and a Senior Secondary School as well as a technical institute, teachers' bungalows and a hostel.

Other facilities are a dinning hall, lecture hall, a guesthouse and a swimming pool, a school farm and playing fields.

Hearthrose Christian Fellowship (HCF) a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United Kingdom is funding the project. Mr Titus Arko, Local Secretary of HCF, said the project, the first of its kind in West Africa, would offer skill training for the lest privileged in carpentry, sewing, masonry, catering, hairdressing, plumbing and information and communication technology. He said the duration of the courses would be three years, adding that, after completing their training the trainees would be provided with tools and capital to start their own ventures. Ms Aidoo commended Nana Ntsiful Ababio XI, Chief of Okyereko, for releasing 10 acres of land to HCF at a concessionary price and another five acres free of charge.

The DCE said a landowner in one of the communities in the District was demanding 80 million cedis from the District Assembly for a piece of land for a project the Assembly wanted to undertake in the community. She pointed out that "unreasonable demands" scared away investors thus depriving the community of projects, which would enhance the standard of living of the people.

Ms Aidoo announced that henceforth the Assembly would not initiate projects for communities but would rather help them to complete projects they initiate.

Mr Samuel Arko, Executive Office of the NGO, said trainees who were unable to continue their training in higher institutions and school drop-outs should not be allowed to "go waste", hence the decision by HCF to go to their rescue.

Nana Ntsiful Ababio assured the organization of the full support of the people in ensuring the early completion of the project.
