Multimedia should apologise to Ghanaians – Richard Nyamah

Pro-New Patriotic Party youth group, Young Patriots, are demanding an apology from the Multimedia Group of Companies for what they say are attempts at misleading the public with their reportage.

The group is objecting to reports aired by the media house which they claim sought to create partisan political links to a stabbing incident which occurred at the party’s rally.

According to the President of the group, Richard Nyamah, contrary to the media report, the supporter who was stabbed was a member of the NPP.

Speaking on Citi Prime News, Mr Nyamah noted: “On that day, which is a Monday, when the incident happened, there were foreign reporters there that is; the BBC from the UK, Associated Press from the United States of America and other media houses. In actual fact as we speak, if you contact the Greater Accra Regional [Police] Command they would also affirm that the gentleman who was stabbed was an NPP supporter.”

“When the event happened, what we did was to take off his t-shirt and showed to the supporters at the ground that look our ranks have been infiltrated by people who want to cause chaos and commotion,” he said.

Mr. Nyamah further noted that the party was forced to use the incident to indicate to their supporters not to revert to violence when attacked but to report and submit any culprits to the Police or party executives.

“Now the Joy fm reporter who was on the spot somehow reports that the NPP supporter [charged] on an NDC supporter and stabbed him. First of all I don’t think any NDC supporter will be brave enough to wear an NDC t-shirt and get into a crowd of over 10,000 supporters; that is not possible. Secondly what is happening is that there are other witnesses to the event.”

“We expect at the end of the day that the media house that is Multimedia, will do the honourable thing. I wish that Multimedia will at least apologise to the NPP, because there is an attempt to make us look bad and violent,” Mr Nyamah added.
