Koforidua, Nov. 14, GNA- The running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, on Saturday gave the assurance that if NDC wins the December elections, he would do all he could to empower Muslim communities to raise their standard of living.
He appealed to Muslim leaders to pray for peaceful elections and for victory for NDC.
Alhaji Mumuni was speaking at the Koforidua Central Mosque on Saturday, where he joined the Muslim community for the Ramadan prayers to mark the Eid-ul-Fitr of Muslims.
Earlier, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, a national vice-chairman of the NDC, introduced Alhaji Mumuni, who was in clutches due to the injuries incurred during a motor accident, to the gathering.
He later introduced Mr. Frempong Boateng, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben North and Mr. Kwesi Agyeman Gyan-Tutu, NDC Parliamentary candidate for New Juaben South to the gathering. The Member of Parliament for Koforidua, Mr Yaw Barimah, who also joined the Muslims at the mosque on behalf of President J. A. Kufour, thanked the Muslim community for their support of the government for the years that the NPP had been in office.
He urged all political functionaries to realize that, in whatever they do, the unity of Ghana was greater than the victory of any political party in the December elections.
Mr. Barimah urged all political parties to pursue their campaigns in a peaceful way.
Earlier, in a message, the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Yusif Sulemana Amdani, called on all Muslims to commit themselves towards the education of their children.
He urged them to contribute towards the New Juaben Muslim Education Fund to help generate the resources needed for the support of needy but brilliant Muslim children to get access to higher education. Sheikh Amdani called on all Muslims and Ghanaians in general, not to allow party politics to destroy the peace that the country had been enjoying.
