Accra, Dec. 15, GNA - Alhaji Mohammad Mumuni, running mate of Prof. John Evans Atta Mills in the recent general election, on Wednesday made his first appearance in Parliament after his September 29 motor traffic accident.
A number of his colleagues from both sides of the house were on hand to exchange pleasantries with Alhaji Mumuni, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kumbungu.
The Speaker expressed thanks to God on his behalf and said he was happy to see him back in the House.
Later in a statement, Alhaji Mumuni expressed deep appreciation to all Ghanaians, President Kufuor, and especially Vice President Alui Mahama who took time off to visit him at the Hospital.
The MP also expressed profound gratitude to leading members of his party and former President Jerry Rawlings.
He said his accident did generate a lot of controversy and said at the right time he would come out with a report of what really took place since Ghanaians had the right to know the facts of the case. In another development, Mr Kosi Kedem, NDC-Hohoe South, appealed to Parliament to urgently attend to the welfare packages of members of the House especially, those who were not coming back to Parliament.
He said this was important because of the imminent dissolution of the Third Parliament in January 6, 2005.
Mr Kedem said members who were not coming back should be given enough time to vacate their accommodation. The leadership of both sides of the House, however, gave the assurance that everything was being done to secure their interest and give members a befitting welfare package.
