The National Democratic Congress could be on the verge of losing one of its seat in the Ashanti Region if claims by the Member of Parliament for the area are anything to go by.
Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has claimed that Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiko, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party is busily busing minors to his constituency to partake in the limited registration exercise.
Also, electoral officers in the Asokore Mampong Municipality had to put yesterday’s registration exercise on hold due to scuffles that ensured between some supporters of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party over the registration of minors.
However, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiko aka Chairman ‘Wontumi’ has vehemently denied registering or busing minors to Asawase and tells Peacefmonline.com that he believes the NDC legislator for the area is on wild goose chase. According to him, he is focused and not ready to be detracted by the unsubstantiated accusation from “a man who is about to lose his seat very soon”.
“This is Ashanti Region and this is the heart of the New Patriotic Party. We would teach the NDC a bitter lesson by winning all the seats. Under my watch, they shouldn’t expect to win any more seats.
“I am very happy Muntaka is worried about the change that is coming. He should enjoy his last days and keep in mind that he would never return to Parliament again after 2016”, ‘Wontumi’ said.
Chairman ‘Wontumi’ explained that the NPP would try as much as possible to keep the registration process clean and wouldn’t dirt the current register by forcing minors and foreigners to vote just like the NDC is doing in the Brong Ahafo Region.
In the Brong Ahafo Region, the NPP has alleged that Ivorian refugees at the Fetentaa Refugee Camp, near Berekum, are being bused by the NDC to register in the country’s limited voters’ registration exercise.
They argue that the move is to enable them to later vote in the November 7 general elections.
According to the NPP, some of their members encountered twelve people believed to be from Ivory Coast at the Akokora-Kwadwo electoral area in the Sunyani East constituency, attempting to register in the exercise.
This allegation comes months after the NPP argued that they have cause to believe that the country’s voter’s register is bloated by over 70,000 with names of minors and foreigners mostly from neighboring countries including Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
