The Ghana Police Service has revealed that there was an increase in murder cases in the second quarter of this year.

Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye revealed this at a meeting between the Police administration and the Eminent Persons Group to deliberate on maintaining peace ahead of the 2012 elections.

Mr. Tawiah Quaye explained that even though there has been a decrease in some social vices, the disregard of life and human dignity has led to increase in murders.

“During the second quarter of this year, murder increased at a time that overall criminal situations had decreased. Murder increased by 35.7%.

“During this period we realize one thing there was a total disregard for human life” IGP Paul Tawiah Quaye said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Operations of the Police Service COP John Kudalor says some measures have been put in place by the police to ensure peaceful elections.
