The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), has condemned the brutal murder of the Assembly Member for Sogakope South, Marcus Mawuli Adzahli, popularly known as Mac Greenline and attack on the family especially his widowed wife and child who are under critical condition receiving treatment at the hospital.
They described the murder as barbaric and called on the police to speed investigations to apprehend persons behind it.
Administrative Officer for NALAG, Mr. Andrews Bediako bemoaned all forms of threats, harassments, humiliations and undue frustrations by certain elements in society on assembly members which frown on their fundamental human rights.
"It beats our mind that in recent times attacks on Assembly Members are gaining grounds in our society which hitherto was not so,” he said.
Mr. Bediako also called on the general public to lend total support to the security services in arresting perpetrators of such heinous crimes against Assembly Members who have by their office has offered themselves in service to the nation under extreme resource constraints.
Additionally, he appealed to the residents of Sogakope to eschew any form of wrongful activities that may throw the town into chaos or affect the general security and wellbeing of other residents in the locality.
The assemblyman for Sogakofe South, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, was shot dead by unknown persons over the weekend.
According to reports, Mr. Adzahli, who is the Toklopo and CEO of Mcgreenline, sustained wounds in the head, chest and stomach after what seemed like he struggled with the assailants.
His wife is also reported to have sustained injuries in the head and a knife wound on the shoulder.
