Muslim Mission honours 105 elders

Kumasi, Nov. 19, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Muslim Mission (GMM), on Sunday held a remembrance day at the Islamic High School grounds in Kumasi to honour 105 of its elders for their 50 years of dedicated services to the Mission.

The Elders who came from Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions were honoured with citations and certificates. Prominent among them were, Alhaji Ibrahim Baryeh, current Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Mission, Alhaji Mohammed Musah Kofi Nuamah, Ashanti Regional Secretary, who joined the Mission in 1963 and the late Alhaji Adam Seth Kwame Boafo, who was the Chief Protocol of the group. Others were, Alhaji Al-Qari, who had been the Ashanti Regional Imam of the Mission since 1989 to date, Alhaji Hamidu Osei Kofi, Alhaji Mohammed Kyereapem and Alhaji Abdulai Dabanka, a mason. A citation read for them commended the elders on their tremendous contributions towards the growth of the Mission since its establishment 50 years ago.

It said, "your sterling leadership qualities have brought the Mission this far, you have fought spiritually, financially, morally and socially to help in the development of the Mission and Islam". "You have wonderful unifying force to move people forward and the youth take inspiration from your leadership skills and qualities, may the Almighty God bless you and your family now and forever". Alhaji Baryeh called for support and collaboration to help move the Mission forward at all levels stressing that many people were watching them and it would be the behaviour and conduct they exhibited that would attract more people to the Mission. Sheikh Amen Bonsu, Assistant National Chief Imam of the Mission appealed to various branches to embark on meaningful income generation activities to raise funds to support themselves and the Mission. He said the Mission would endeavour to provide credit facilities to members to engage in farming and other economic activities to improve on their living standards.

An amount of 118 million cedis with Sheikh Bonsu providing 40 million cedis of the total amount and cheques for 82 million cedis, was raised in an appeal for funds to support the completion of a Mosque, the provision of dormitories and Assembly Hall for Islamic High School.
