Muslim community gets new Ultra-Modern Mosque

A new ultra-modern Central Mosque has been commissioned for use by the Muslim community at Ashongman, a suburb of Accra in the Ga East Municipal Assembly.

The plush edifice, which can take more than one thousand worshipers at a time, The aL-hAJJ gathered, was started by one of the Imams and Islamic teachers in the area, Alhaji Umar Toure who passed on in the cause of the project.

According to a family source, Alhaji Umar Toure’s son single handedly took over the construction of the mosque until its commissioning last week.

The Mosque complex has four unit classroom blocks, an office for the principal Imam, mechanized borehole, toilet facilities for both sex, ablution area for both male and female, a standby generator and security post.

The commissioning of the ultra modern Mosque was witnessed by prominent personalities including the National Imam of Ahlussuna, Hajj Umar, Sheikh Osumanu Barri; a former diplomat, Sheikh Armiao Shaibu who chaired the occasion; 2016 presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention, Hassan Ayariga; and Lawyer Musah Ahmed among others.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hassan Ayariga charged the Muslim community to emulate the good works of people such as “the donor of this great edifice we are commissioning today.

He said all Muslims must be supportive of each other by way of financial and material support, saying that is what Islam stands for.

The former PNC presidential candidate took advantage of the occasion to warn parents who abdicate their responsibilities by abandoning the upkeep of their children to reconsider their actions and do the right thing.

“Whatever you do on this earth would be shown to you on the day of resurrection, and so be wary of that day,” he added.
