The Ghana Muslim Students’ Association (GMSA) has expressed its deepest condolences to families of the victims of the June 3 twin disaster that claimed the lives of several people in Accra.

The Association applauded government and other organizations for the swift support and interventions during the unfortunate incident, and appealed to more benevolent organizations and individuals to follow suit.

This is contained in a communique issued and signed by Hussein Andani Mohammed, GMSA National President, at the Central Committee meeting of the Association on the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies.

The communique called on authorities to be more circumspect in the issuance of permits, as far as building and construction were concerned, in order to avert such occurrences in future.

While sympathizing with families of the Accra twin disaster, the communique also urged all heads of second cycle institutions, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and all stakeholders, to comply strictly with the communique issued by the National Peace Council on March 31.

It also reminded the National Peace Council to take affirmative measures towards the implementation of the said communique.

“We have absolute confidence in the Peace Council and we are closely monitoring events,” the communique emphasized.

It admonished Muslim students to remain calm and resolute as they waited on the Peace Council.

On the power crisis, the communique appreciated efforts by the government so far in ameliorating the power crisis, but further appealed to the government to accelerate actions to salvage the situation, because of its devastating consequences on the Ghanaian populace, especially students.

“More so, as B.E.C.E starts on Monday, June 15, we recommend that the powers that be, should ensure stable power throughout the entire period of the examination.”

The communique also appealed to heads of institutions to take into consideration the plight of Muslim students during the month of Ramadan, by ensuring the availability of food both at dawn and evening, to enable them perform this important religious activity.

The communique wished all B.E.C.E candidates the best of luck and all Muslims a fruitful Ramadan.
