Agona Swedru (C/R), Nov 15, GNA - Two Muslim Leaders in the Agona District of the Central Region, Chief Awudu Musah and Chief Mohammed Bashiru have warned Muslims to refrain from any electoral malpractices that could mar the success of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary polls.

The two leaders were particular about double voting and stressed that it was an offence for any one to be motivated through selfish interest or to be influenced with material gifts to vote twice. Chief Musah and Chief Bashiru gave the warning during sermons to mark the Eid-UL-Fitr festival at Agona Swedru. Chief Musah asked Muslims to conduct themselves in a decent manner before, during and after the General Election to ensure peace and stability.

He expressed dissatisfaction about the anti-social behaviour of some Muslims that tended to dent the image of the religion. Chief Musah said Islam was a peaceful religion, hence the need for adherents to be guided by the teachings of the Koran to do the will of Allah.

Chief Bashiru urged Muslims to desist from drug abuse, drunkenness and other social vices, which violated the rules and regulations of Islam.

Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, called on Muslim parents to invest in the education of their children, especially their daughters.

He announced that he had donated 20 bags of cement from his share of the MP's District Assemblies' Common Fund, for the rehabilitation of the English and Arabic School at Swedru Zongo to enhance effective teaching and learning.

Mr Obodia asked Muslims to vote massively for the ruling New Patriotic Party to enable the government to continue with its good works.

He advised Muslims to maintain the purity; truthfulness; honesty; kindness, love and tolerance they cultivated during the Ramadan period to help to promote national cohesion.

Malam Iddrisu Musah Sori, Agona District Chief Imam, urged Muslims to desist from attacking their political opponents, to ensure free and fair elections. 15 Nov. 04
