Accra, Nov. 3, GNA - Maulvi Wahab Adam, Head and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, has urged Muslims to be more concerned with being at peace with each other as well as the larger society.

He said it was high time that all who were at conflict with others realised that the attainment of peace was very important so far as service to God was concerned.

Maulvi Adam said this when he delivered a sermon on the occasion of the Eid-Ul-Fitr at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Conference Centre in Accra on Thursday.

He noted that abstaining from eating and drinking was meaningless unless it brought about a complete moral and spiritual transformation of the individual.

Maulvi Adam asked Muslims to reflect on the profound admonition of the Holy Prophet of Islam to the effect that "he who does not eschew foul talk and evil deeds was not required of Allah to keep hungry and thirsty through fasting".

He said being one of the five pillars of Islam, fasting in the blessed month of Ramadan had the primary objective of instilling discipline, self- control, tolerance and above all the spirit of repentance, forgiveness and goodwill towards all.

"These are the qualities that constitute solid blocks for the building of a peaceful, harmonious, caring and prosperous society," he said.

Maulvi Adam said fasting was also an affirmation of the fact that divine laws were not an unnecessary burden but rather a means of realising one's responsibilities according to other's rights, adding that divine laws also helped man in his quest for moral and spiritual excellence.

He urged all Muslims to pray for the nation "that Allah may out of His grace grant us unity, peace, progress and prosperity". Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr to mark the end of thirty days of fasting in the month of Ramadan, in obedience to the command of Allah.
