Kumasi, Aug. 31, GNA - The Deputy National Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Sheikh Amen Bonsu has appealed to Muslims to uphold the values of peace and piety as they end the Ramadan. He said the month-long spiritual cleansing and renewal should reinforce their commitment to national unity, religious tolerance and promotion of the common good of society.
Sheikh Bonsu said it was important for all to appreciate that Islam stood for peace and development.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi on Tuesday, Sheikh Bonsu said as they celebrate the Eid-Ul-Fitr on Wednesday August 31st, there was the need for especially the Muslims youth to desist from acts that could mar the beauty of the celebration. He said activities including 93Salla" dance, pool and street parties and riding competition, which were un-Islamic, should be avoided.
"We should conduct ourselves well and mark the occasion in a dignified way."
He encouraged them to become good examples to the rest of society in order to convert more people to Islam. Sheikh Bonsu said they should also support the poor and the needy and contribute to the implementation of development programmes in their various communities.
