Following the Supreme Court's ruling on the vacant seats, many individuals and CSOs have called on the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to reconvene the House to continue with government business.

However, Murtala Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, has stated that his constituents have advised him not to return to Parliament if there is a recall.

According to him, there is a need to adhere to what his constituents say, hence his decision to stay away should Parliament be recalled.

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, called on the party's Members of Parliament not to respond to any emergency recall of Parliament.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia, addressing party enthusiasts in the Ellembelle Constituency, stated that democracy only exists when there is Parliament. He added that the whims and caprices adopted by some people to reduce Parliament to nothingness should not be happening in recent times, hence calling on the NDC MPs not to return to Parliament if there is an emergency recall.

Reacting to Asiedu Nketia's position on JoyNews' AM Show on Monday, November 18, 2024, Murtala Mohammed said, "My constituents think Mr. Nketia's directive should be adhered to."

"I can tell you that if you were to take the position of the people of Tamale Central, overwhelmingly, they think we shouldn't even go back to Parliament. They think we shouldn't."

"I belong to a party, and I represent a constituency. I came with the decision of the party, and the people of Tamale Central overwhelmingly agreed with that viewpoint. Therefore, whatever the party decides is certainly what the majority of the people of Tamale Central would agree with," Murtala Mohammed maintained.
