The brouhaha surrounding the Heal Ghana Module under the Nation Builders Corps takes another turn as the unemployed nurses are yet to come to terms with the stance taken by government to enroll them onto the scheme.

According to the students, although they are not against government’s decision to introduce the program to address graduate unemployment, they believe that the associated remuneration falls far below their skills and training.

The group comprises of the members from the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainee Association, Coalition of Unemployed Nurses, Degree Allied Health Professionals, Coalition of Unposted Allied Health Professionals and the National Health Students Association of Ghana.

XYZ News has learnt that a meeting convened on Friday 11th May 2018 by the office of the Vice President after their demonstration a week ago left the leadership of the health trainees dissatisfied.

Speaking to XYZ News’ President of the National Health Students Association, Richard Osei Yeboah stated government had taken an ‘entrenched’ position throughout the crunch meeting.

“We had the opportunity to make our point but it was more or less an entrenched position taken before coming into the meeting because the financial clearance is still not paid but they could not tell us exactly what is happening and when we should expect it. All they want us to do is to enroll on this module and that ends the whole story about permanent posting”, he said.

Expressing his disappointment to XYZ News’ Kenneth Awotwe Darko, Richard Osei further revealed that a sequel to their previous demonstration will not be farfetched in their bid to stay relentless in the push against the discrepancies underpinning Heal Ghana module.

“We will do everything we can to ensure that our people are given the best care. We will surely hit the streets very soon”, he added.

The unemployed nurses and health professionals scheduled a crisis meeting with the mother body for Monday 14th and 15th of May 2018 to inform their next line of action following government’s failure to review the terms of the Nation Builders’ Corps.
