Almost two years after the Akosombo Dam spillage disaster that massively affected many persons along the Volta Lake from North Tongu to Ada and parts of Anloga in the Volta Region, the National Disaster Management Organisatuon (NADMO), Ada, has undertaken a massive educational drive in all the affected communities on the island.

Pediatorkopey, Alorkpem, Alorwusodekope, Azizakpey and Tuenyanikofe were the communities to benefit as the government agency educated the Islanders on how to prevent any future spillages.

Under the presidency and leadership of John Dramani Mahama, all NADMO offices have been tasked to list details of all persons who lost their properties and families as a result of the spillage, in order to share their experiences to prescribe preventive measures for future occurence of such man-made disasters.

Although no proper settlement and compensations have been provided to the affected, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama's regime, through NADMO has initiated a detailed relief, aid and educational programme to sensitise the islanders on water disasters and how to prevent any future occurences.

Communities on the Island of Alorwusodekope 'Sorngmor,' the first to settle down on the Island led by Alorwusodey Fiergbeji-Adzigodi were also taken through the extensive educational drive on water related disasters by officers of NADMO-Ada.

The educational activities mostly centered on massive tree planting and dredging of all waterways on the Island.

This initiative is the first of it's kind in the most affected areas in the Ada Islands and surrounding villages, almost two years after the human-made disaster that ravaged many communities living along Ghana's renowned Volta Lake.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was lavished with massive praises for the role he played in the rescue of his constituents and surrounding communities during and after the Akosombo Dam water spillage.

In a relation, MPs for Ada East and West were tasked to emulate same by going to the aid of all the Island communities, who are still enduring a lot of hardships as a result of the water spillage.
