Ahead of the pending general elections, the running mate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has embarked on a campaign to rally support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia among traditional authorities within the Greater Accra region.

Dr. Prempeh, a former Minister of Energy and a key figure within the ruling NPP, has been actively engaging with chiefs and traditional leaders across various districts in the Greater Accra Region.

These efforts are aimed at solidifying grassroots support for the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party gears up for the 2024 presidential elections.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2024, NAPO paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Ada State, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III.

He presented the party’s vision to the traditional leader and emphasized Vice President Bawumia's commitment to national development and his vision for a prosperous Ghana.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh underscored the vice president's track record in spearheading initiatives such as digitization, economic reforms, and infrastructure development, which he believes are crucial for the country's growth.

Later in the day, the NPP running mate also paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Prampram traditional area, Nene Tetteh Wakah III.

He highlighted Dr. Bawumia's efforts in championing digitalization and reforms to ensure equitable access to all citizens.

He also noted the vice president's role in advocating for policies that promote youth empowerment and economic inclusivity.

The former energy minister paid similar courtesy calls on the Tema Traditional Council and the Chief of Nungua, Professor Odaifio Welentsi III.

The move by the NPP running mate signals the party’s approach in mobilizing support from traditional authorities in the Greater Accra region ahead of the 2024 election.

Throughout Ghana’s political history, the role of traditional leaders in influencing voter sentiment remains pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.
