Akyem Oda, Aug 13, GNA- The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) last Sunday urged the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports to incorporate into the School curriculum from the kindergarten the importance of Nationalism and Patriotism. Mr Samuel Ayim Ankomah, Birim South District Co-coordinator of NAPSA made the call during an end of service Dinner and Awards Night of the Association at Akyem Oda to climax the annual week-long celebration for the year 2006/2007.
He said since the future growth and development of the nation depended on the youth, it was important that they were imbibed with nationalism and patriotism at an early age to be able to play that useful role.
Mr Ankomah enumerated the contributions of the National Service Scheme since its inception 34 years ago and commended the personnel for their sacrifice to the nation and urged them to keep it up. He advised them to do their best wherever they would find themselves by being disciplined, punctual and regular to work. "You should be submissive, have a sense of patriotism and responsibility and above all accept postings to the rural and deprived areas", he said.
Mr Ankomah was full of praise to the District Assembly, District Directorate of Education, Heads of Departments and other service agencies for cooperating with the service personnel and working with them peaceful.
He appealed to other user agencies to see the personnel "as an integral part of development and not as passengers who cannot be entrusted with responsibilities".
Mr Robert K. Amoah, Presiding Member of the Birim South District Assembly advised the youth to render good stewardship and exhibit selflessness as they enter the job market. He stressed the commitment of the assembly to solving the accommodation problems facing the personnel. Mr Ebenezer Okoampah won the best community service personnel award while Miss Emelia Biamah of the Oda Secondary School received the best teaching award.
