Accra, May 5, GNA - The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) on Thursday called on the Government to appoint a substantive Director and a new Board to see to the effective management of the National Service Secretariat.
The Association said if the authorities did not act within a reasonable time frame they would respond appropriately.
Mr Richard Aidoo, Acting Press Secretary of NASPA, announced this at a press conference in Accra to throw light on the delays in the payment of allowances to Service Personnel.
The meeting that attracted large service personnel was also to discuss ways of rejuvenating the association that had become dormant for some time now.
Mr Aidoo said even the November 2004 to February 2005 allowances that were paid in March were due to the demonstration staged by a section of the personnel and the Ministry of Education and Sports had to save the situation since there was no one to sign in the capacity of a Director.
He called on the Minister of Finance, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu to effect the necessary increment in personnel allowances from March 2005 as presented in the budget statement, adding that anything contrary to that would be met with stiff opposition.
He recommended that the payment of allowances of service personnel should be made latest by the first week of the following month.
