The National Commission for Civic Education has denied ownership of the reported Mahindra vehicles which have been rebranded into the colours of the ruling National Democratic Congress.

The Managing director of Tema-based Marbles and Granite was arrested and detained by the BNI for allegedly taking pictures of the said vehicles and splashing them on social media.

The national security advisor to the President Alhaji Baba Kamara who ordered his arrest was infuriated that Dr. Edmund Ayo Ani created the impression that the cars, which were parked on his property, were meant for the NCCE but were being clandestinely rebranded into the symbols of the NDC.

In a statement however, the NCCE said it has never used Mahindra vehicles for its operations and does not own one.

“We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling. We assure the good people of Ghana that the NCCE as a Constitutional Body remains independent in carrying out its mandate to the nation,” portions of the statement said.

Below are details of the statement

The NCCE has noted with concern a news item carried by various media houses from Saturday, 2nd April to Monday, 4th April, 2016. The news item states that the Managing Director of Marbles and Granites Limited, has been arrested for allegedly circulating pictures of 50 Mahindra vehicles belonging to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) being rebranded to support NDC's campaign ahead of the November general elections.

The NCCE wishes to state and inform the public that the said vehicles alleged to have been rebranded to support NDC's campaign ahead of the November elections do not belong to the NCCE.

The Commission has no connection to the said vehicles. We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling.

We assure the good people of Ghana that the NCCE as a Constitutional Body remains independent in carrying out its mandate to the nation.
