Kumasi, Aug. 6, GNA - Mr. Paul Adu-Gyamfi, President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), has asked the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to ensure that it does not become the propaganda tool of any political party.
He noted that the Commission could function diligently and efficiently only if the officials of the NCCE insulate themselves from political control and machinations.
Mr Adu-Gyamfi was opening a five-day capacity building workshop for field officers of the Commission in Kumasi.
The workshop was organised by the NCCE with sponsorship from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for some 60 participants from the Upper West, Central and Brong-Ahafo Regions.
The GBA President noted that as the political barometer gets hotter in the run up to next year's general elections, they should ensure that their platform was accessible to all.
He said the Commission's success would be measured by the extent to which it helps the political parties to accommodate and tolerate one another.
Mr Adu-Gyamfi renewed the call on the government to resource the NCCE to enable it to perform its constitutional responsibilities. Mr Larry Bimi, Chairman of the Commission, repeated that frequent disruption of constitutional rule was the major drawback on the country's development.
He therefore, called on the officers of the Commission to lead the people to march against any military adventurer who attempts to usurp political power unconstitutionally.
Mr Bimi, however, noted that they could do this only when they approached their work in a non-partisan manner to win the trust and confidence of the people.
