Mr. Akorli who is also an MP said when President Kufuor addressed the recent NPP congress, he disclosed that the government has greatly reduced the cost of constructing a kilometer of road. According to him, the President said his government has reduced it from between $500,000 and $600,000 a kilometer to less than $200,000. Mr. Akorli argued that the Anyinam section of the Accra-Kumasi asphalt road is only 11.5kilometres but the cost is about $413,900 per kilometer.
The foreign exchange component is $4.9million with the cedi equivalent being ?9.7bilion.
He also said information from public documents indicated that 21.8kilometres of the Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi road costs $10.1million and ?20billion, putting the cost per kilometer at $472,447. A workers representative of the NDC, Mr. Kodey told the cheering crowd that the biggest problem facing Ghanaians is President Kufuor and his government.
He said, ?if you look at our situation now, the workers of Ghana are suffering because we have left Ghana in the hands of unskilled people. ?We in the NDC are going to remove the NPP government, not with AK-47 but with our thumbs.
