-Say their old-fashioned politics will take them nowhere

By A A Yayra A group calling itself the Intellectual Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hit hard at the New Patriotic Party for describing President John Dramani Mahama’s intention to call about 4,800 witnesses to testify for him in the party’s election-related case now before the Supreme Court as an “unethical legal tactics to delay the legal process”

The group says the NPP’s chronic inability to proffer any concrete, measurable, credible policy alternatives and knowing that their court case will hit a raw nerve, has restricted them to dabbling in old- fashioned, pedestrian politics which places emphasis on raising unnecessary allegations that will take them nowhere”.

A statement signed by the chairman of the group, Mustapha Inusah said “we consider this barbaric and hollow arguments being advanced by the NPP as absolute gibberish and coming from imaginary politicians, who have nothing substantive in value to say, yet chose to say something, anyhow, because they needed to make a statement.” Their statement was in reaction to a group sympathetic to the NPP, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), who accused President Mahama and Dr. Raymond Atuguba of engaging in unethical legal tactics to delay the NPP’s petition before the Supreme Court on last year’s Presidential election results.

According to the LMVCA, President Mahama's decision to call 4,800 witnesses shows his quest to remain in power despite the widespread irregularities in the elections, adding the writ filed by Dr. Raymond Atuguba at the Supreme Court on behalf of Bernard Mornah challenging CI 74 was prompted by the President in an attempt to frustrate the Supreme Court’s proceedings.

But in a sharp response, the Intellectual Youth of NDC said they found it repugnant, condescending, irritating and deeply insulting that the LMVCA and the NPP would have the effrontery to exercise their right to freedom under the 1992 Constitution to fault results from over 4700 polling station, but refusing to listen to 4800 witnesses in court.

According to the statement, “we see nothing but a professional and intellectual dishonesty in the issues raised by the LMVCA and the NPP. It is one of the many sad episodes in Ghanaian politics.”

“The LMVCA and other like minds must know that, the NPP votes are not superior in quality than other votes. Yes, the NPP had persons voting for them, but they should not create the impression that apart from them and their votes, other votes are useless and should not be considered,” the statement added. The group cannot fathom how on earth such an incorrigible arm-chair group of the NPP finds fault with who represents the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention, Benard Monah in court as his counsel”.

The group’s statement noted that “it is regrettable that after many years of formal education, people you expect to know better are by their actions demonstrating an inhuman attitude of ignorance and idiocy.”

“We wish to remind the LMVCA and the NPP that principles must be the core platform on which we build a Great and Strong nation- the cause of right- the cause of justice, the cause of fairness and the cause of brotherhood. The whip in the temple was about sacred values and nothing else”, they added The group stated that, “we humbly and solemnly call for a revolution; a mind-altering process that offers members of the group and other members of the NPP who subscribes to this arguments, the intellectual, interpretive, and critical eyes to see through political hypocrisy”
