NDC Condems Violence VIOLENCE

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a press statement has said that it has come to the notice of the party that the demonstrations held last Thursday, May 11, 1995 organised by a group calling itself Alliance for Change, was master-minded by the big wigs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC statement also red thus: "Prior to their Thursday show of force, information had reached us from unimpeachable sources of their objective to loot and burn down the Makola Market, which led to the directive by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) that all shops be closed on the day in question to protect properties of innocent citizens".


The statement further recalled that on January 7, 1993, following the election of the NDC to power, it was the expectation of all peace-loving Ghanaians that this and succeeding governments would be allowed to run their full terms, unhindered, uninterrupted.


Last Thursday's events such as was witnessed, leading to the loss innocent lives, cannot be good for this nation which the statement described as an oasis of peace and tranquillity.


The NDC, the statement read, condemns this vandalism and hopes that all peace-loving people of Ghana would rise up and decry this irresponsible behaviour.

The NDC said, they were pleased to learn that the law enforcement agencies are conducting a full scale inquiry the incidents of last Thursday and hoped that the inquiries would be swift.


The press statement congratulated the gallant ACDRs and other patriotic citizens who came out to defend lives and property.


To the injured, the NDC wished them speedy recovery and extended their warm condolences to the families of the bereaved.


The NDC assured its supporters that the situation was under control and asked both supporters and sympathisers to stand firm in the conviction that Ghana, our beloved country will rise and shine under NDC.
