Former First Lady and an aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential slot, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, was reportedly subjected to some moments of frustration when the party’s regional and constituency executives in the Brong Ahafo region boycotted her Campaign Team’s invitation to a meeting.
The former First Lady was billed to meet the constituency executives of the party at five different locations to discuss her desire to lead the NDC and canvass for their votes in the impending congress. Sadly, however, none of the executives showed up at any of the locations, according to reports.
The Brong Ahafo (B/A) Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Opoku Atuahene, who disclosed this in an interview with Alhassan Suhini on Radio Gold, an Accra-based private radio station, also revealed that the executives failed to showed up at the meeting because they believe the agenda will serve no purpose to them.
“I had information from the constituencies that they said they were not going to the meeting with the First Lady because they do not think it was worth meeting her so in effect none of them turned up at all the five locations,” he disclosed.
According to him, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC and Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adams called to inform him that they were not having access to the constituency executives as virtually all of they had refused to grant her audience.
“I received a call from Kofi Adams that they are not getting the constituency executives to deliberate with them, but I told them to keep calling because they are in their various constituencies. He told me the constituency executives refused to receive her even though they were billed to meet that afternoon…but none turned up,” he disclosed.
However, speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on PeaceFM’s flagship programme, “Kokrokoo”, Kofi Adams painted an entirely different picture of their tour. He refuted claims by the NDC B/A Regional Chairman that executives in the region boycotted meetings with the former First Lady.
Admittedly, he said, some of the delegates failed to turn up with the excuse that their DCE had told them their (delegates’) safety cannot be guaranteed.
“It was difficult to tell who was telling the delegates not to meet her…When you quiz them they tell you they were ready to come but their DCE told them not to because they can’t guarantee their safety…There were times when a scheduled meeting with Nana Konadu is about to take off and the Regional Minister will also be hovering around the same area meeting the same people… so all of this affected our programme,” he said.
