NDC Files Motion Into ?Hotel Kufuor?

The NDC minority in Parliament has filed a motion for a multi-partisan parliamentary committee to investigate what has become known as the hotel Kufuor saga. The motion was filed last Friday after the minority's complaint that the Speaker of Parliament had refused them permission to make a statement in the House.

Leader o the side, Alban Bagbin told pressmen that he expects the motion to appear in a list of issues Parliament will consider today.

"The parties in Parliament should form a membership of the committee; therefore we are expecting members from the CPP, PNC, NPP and some members from the NDC that will constitute a committee that will proceed to officially investigate the matter. We filed the motion. I believe it will appear on the order paper for us to move it on the floor of the House to debate," he said. Mr. Bagbin said even though he is encouraged by the response from both the minority and majority sides, a final decision on the matter will most likely be determined through a secret ballot.

"These days I am hearing different voices and its like now, people are now talking against us investigating such an issue especially from parliament. And they seem to prefer the constitutional commission, the human rights commission, so the chances are not too good. But I believe that we have a brighter chance than this open voting we have been doing on the floor of parliament. Again we will have another task because we have to insist that because of the nature of the subject matter, members be allowed to do some secret voting," he said.
