The flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says there is ample evidence to demonstrate that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot manage the affairs of the nation.
Consequently, he has advised his colleagues in the leadership of the NPP, and party faithful in general, not to concern themselves with the leadership struggle in the governing party, but rather concentrate on how the elephant family could regain power in 2012, and correct all the wrongs being perpetrated by the ineffective administration of the former University don.
"The NDC has shown that they cannot manage the affairs of the country, and yet, they would like to hold on to power. We cannot, as a party, rely on the problems going on in the NDC, because, whoever they elect as their flagbearer, I say, the value is the same. Leave them to fight their own fight.
Just observe and take useful notes," Nana Addo noted.
At the Regent Hotel in Sunyani, where the NPP presidential aspirant met the Brong Ahafo Regional executive of the NPP, as well as winners and losers of the party's recently held parliamentary primaries, Nana Addo stressed the need for the 'Elephant Family' to remain united. "The party will need everybody, to be able to win the 2012 elections," he told the meeting.
Nana Akuffo Addo's visit to the Brong Ahafo Region was part of the party's "All hands on Deck" nationwide tour by the flagbearer and the national leadership.
He called on newly-elected NPP parliamentary candidates to ensure that the entire memberships of the party, in their respective constituencies, were brought on board. This, he said, would ensure that the NPP would present a united front, ahead of the 2012 general elections.
"What must concern us, as a party, is hard and smart work, and in unity, the Ghanaian people will, by the grace of God, accept our good message and vote us back to power in 2012," Nana Akufo-Addo declared, warning of very hard work ahead.
The presidential candidate of the NPP used the opportunity to congratulate all aspirants, winners and losers alike, together with the leadership of the party in all constituencies and regions, for the mature conduct they displayed during the parliamentary primaries.
"The positive outcome of the just-ended parliamentary primaries shows clearly that when myself and the national executives of the party came to you before the opening of nominations, you listened to our message, and the result is the applause and commendation that the party continues to receive on daily basis, for this novel achievement. Let us continue like this," he said.
Present at the event were some party big wigs, including Nana Obiri Boahen, Nana Gabby Nketia, Prof. Gyan Baffuor and Kwame Ampofo Twumasi. The team later travelled to Techiman to support Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi at a funeral.
The 'All Hands on Deck' nationwide tour, according to the party's Communication Directorate, would take the national leadership to all the ten regions, to enable them meet the respective regional and constituency executives, together with elected parliamentary candidates, as well as defeated aspirants.
The team, led by the flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, includes National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias 'Sir John', Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko, Head of the Party's Conflict Resolution Committee, Akosua Frema Opare and Director of Elections/Research, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah.
