NDC Is More Democratic Than NPP – Kennedy Agyepong

Whiles some elements within the NPP would prefer to use a hoax earthquake text message to divert attention from the NDCs just-ended historic (in the annals of politics in Ghana) delegates congress in Tamale, NPP MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong, is calling a spade a spade and saying it as it is.

Kennedy Agyepong who in the past was known for his use of very abusive language and his unnecessary flexing of muscles (attempting to beat up Ben Ephson, threatened to beat up Kwesi Pratt and threatened to kill President Rawlings and every living thing in his house), seems to have sobered since the NPP lost power and is making a fair amount of sense in his sobriety.

The outspoken Assin North MP has not hidden his extreme admiration for the manner in which the NDC conducted its congress in Tamale and has made it emphatically clear that the NDC has proven to be more democratic than the NPP and that the NPP needs to learn serious democratic lessons from the ruling NDC.

Speaking on Hot FM and a number of radio stations last week, the Assin North MP did not hide the fact that the NDC has proven that it has the capacity to unite when the need arises and that the peaceful manner in which the congress was conducted is a big plus for the Party. “Let’s give credit where it is due and admit that we have a lot of lessons to learn from the NDC” the Assin North MP said.

According to Kennedy Agyepong, the NPP must stop playing the ostrich and accept the fact that NDC has set a very high standard which other Parties must strive to emulate. The free-speaking NPP MP said that if his party does not learn critical lessons from the NDC and stop the Akufo-Addo-Allan Kyeremanteng ‘nonsense”, the party will remain in opposition for a long time. The Assin North MP said that the manner in which the Akufo-Allan Kyeremanteng factions are dividing the party does not bode well for the survival of the NPP and that everything must be done to ensure that the Party comes out of its upcoming congress united just as the NDC has.

According to the MP, the upcoming NPP congress is a defining moment for the Party and if strenuous efforts are not made to narrow the widening gap between the Akufo-Addo Akyem faction and the Allan Kyeremanteng Ashanti faction, the party will have itself to blame.

Kennedy Agyepong who used to be deep in the Akufo-Addo camp, seems to be waking up to the realization that Akufo-Addo is dividing rather than uniting the party especially in the wake of Akufo-Addo’s recent utterances in Kumasi to the effect that he cannot work with Yaw Amankwah and Steven Ntim and so people should vote for F.F Anto and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey as Ashanti Regional Chairman and National Chairman respectively.

Apparently, Kennedy Agyepong’s frank talk about how the Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng factions are tearing the Party apart, is not sitting well with Akufo-Addo who hates any form of criticism. Checks run within the Akufo-Addo faction has it that Kennedy Agyepong is being blacklisted as a turncoat who is taking a middle position because of pressures from the Allan Cash faction. For a person who constantly boasts of his wealth, it would be surprising if it is true that it is money from the Alan Cash camp that is making Kennedy Agyepong move away from the divisive politics of Akufo-Addo and his Akyem faction.
