NDC MPs In Silent Agreement With NPP

Some opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of the legislature have allegedly entered into a silent agreement with the ruling party. By that agreement which came into force sometime early this year, “noise making” NDC members of the House are to stop criticizing the NPP on whatever policies the government adopts in running the country especially, policies on national economy.

The Independent newspaper quotes sources as saying that only NDC MPs who are very critical of economic policies of the Kufuor-led NPP administration are to come to the silent agreement for their own good come December 2004.

In return for keeping their mouths shut, the NDC MPs will be spared their Parliamentary seats by the incumbent party in next year’s Presidential and parliamentary elections, which is just 18 months away. The ruling party, which has advantage of incumbency, will not field popular and marketable candidates to challenge NDC MPs who commit themselves to the “golden silence”.

That revelation, according to political analysts the Independent spoke to, explain the sudden quietness of some hitherto critical NDC MPs in the legislature who were quick to punch holes through any policy proposed by the 30 months old Kufuor administration.
