Two groups, Organised Youth of Ashanti (OYA) supporting the governing National Democratic Congress and Movement For Change (MFC), sympathetic towards the New Patriotic Party have both been given the green light to demonstrate in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi.

This was after a protracted meeting with Police over who gets the right to demonstrate first. According to the police, both groups sent letters to them asking for police protection to demonstrate on the 24th of February.

It was unclear who sent their letter first, leaving the police in a dilemma. It was feared this could cause mayhem if both groups were allowed to go ahead with their demonstration on the same day. It was later realized that they all wanted to use the same route.

To avert a possible clash, the regional police command called leadership of both groups into a meeting and later agreed on which of them should demonstrate first. All parties at the meeting agreed that the pro-NDC group, Organised Youth of Ashanti should go ahead with its demonstration on the 24th of February.

Movement for Change, the pro-NPP group would go ahead with its demonstration on the 25th of February, a day after their counterparts from the political divide. MFC says their demonstration is against government for its poor management of the power crisis in the country.

OYA says their act of passage through the streets of Kumasi is to showcase and tell people what the current government has achieved since assuming power.

The police have given both groups its assurance to provide security for them on both days.
