Former President John Mahama
The Awutu Senya East constituency branch of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken a swipe at the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Michael Mensah for ordering people to remove posters of former president Mahama pasted along the Kasoa interchange and its environs.
The NDC is alleging that the MCE ordered his boys to remove all the campaign posters of Mr Mahama for political reasons.
Secretary of the Awutu Senya East NDC, Toarek Amadu speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM said, the NDC has been taken aback by the action of the MCE.
He told Kwabena Agyapong that the NDC confronted the boys and they said they were acting on orders of the MCE.
He said, the boys were only removing the posters of Mr Mahama and left other posters.
Reasons assigned were that the posters were pasted at unauthorised places with the inscription ‘Post No Bill’.
But the NDC secretary says it was false and was worried the NPP targeted only posters of Mahama.
The move he said is an attempt to create confusion in the area and warned that, ‘’if there is a reprisal attack in the constituency, don’t blame the NDC. There are old posters still pasted at the same place they removed Mahama’s posters and so why target Mahama and leave the other posters.’’
‘’The MCE has sent a bad signal and so if there is a reprisal attack in Kasoa, the NDC should not be blamed,’’ he stressed.
The return of Mahama he posited has instilled fear in the NPP and because of that, they are trying every possible means to frustrate the campaign of Mr Mahama.
Meanwhile, the MCE has confirmed he ordered his boys to remove the poster because they were pasted at unauthorised places.
He has vowed to remove the posters should the NDC post them again.
According to him, he saw the NDC members pasting the posters and asked them to remove them because where they were posting it was an unauthorised place.
He further alleged that the NDC mobilised their men to attack the taskforce office and promised to spill blood should the posters be removed again.
He said, they came to my house and wanted to attack me but I will not condone lawlessness in the constituency. I am not against anyone but they have to be law abiding. We will not allow anybody to be lawless. It is not going to work.’’
He also refuted suggestion of the NPP fearing the return of Mahama adding, Mahama as candidate will make the victory of NPP in 2020 much easier.
The NPP is not afraid of Mahama. His candidacy will make our victory sail through smoothly,’ he added.
