The National Youth Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, on Monday appealed to the people of the Upper East Region to vote the party into power come 2012.

Mr Hlodze made the appeal when he met a cross section of businessmen including taxi drivers, tri-cyclists, transport owners and youth groups of the region at Bolgatanga.

He said within three years, the NDC Government under the leadership the late President John Evans Atta Mills, had brought about unprecedented development including schools, health facilities, roads, free school uniforms and books across the 10 regions of the country, and that the party should be given the chance to continue to improve upon the fortunes of Ghanaians.

He told the people that one of the major reasons for meeting them was to know their needs so that during national policy and programmes planning, he could make an input into its implementation so as to make positive impact in their well-being.

Mr Hlodze recounted a number of interventions including the National Youth Employment Programme, LESDEP and YESDEP which had engaged a lot of the youth in the country.

He assured the people that when the party retained power, more efforts would be put in to improve upon the living conditions of Ghanaians and noted that those who had not benefited yet would also receive their share of development.

“The NDC Government inherited a lot of debts caused by the previous government and had to spend huge sums of money that could have been used in building more infrastructure, help district assemblies and pay debts of contractors. The foundation, which has been laid now, will benefit more Ghanaians,” he said.

Mr Hlodze entreated the people to ensure that they persuaded more people from other parties in the region and beyond to vote the NDC and to also police and monitor the elections very well to avoid the tendencies of any electoral fraud.

He also appealed to them to eschew all forms of violence by ensuring that no selfish politician influenced them to cause trouble during the impending elections to mar the country’s beauty of democracy.

The people called on government to empower them with loans to undertake businesses to improve upon their livelihoods.

They also thanked the government for the development in the region and indicated that it had created employment opportunities for the people.
