NDC Planned To Assasinate me -Lord Commey

MR. LORD COMMEY, the national organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said his party has uncovered an alleged assassination plot against him, by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He alleged that the plot was to eliminate key members and supporters of the party, who are currently in Asawase, as a way of ensuring an NDC victory on Wednesday, April 21, 2005, in the Asawase by-election.

According to Lord Commey, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) had had information about the negotiation with two taxi drivers in Kumasi to trail and eliminate the occupant of a car with registration number AW 4072U.

In a telephone interview with Daily Guide yesterday, the NPP national organiser said he had been compelled to call NDC to order, because of what he had seen, since pitching camp in Asawase, to garner support for NPP to win the forth-coming polls.

According to him, when the REGSEC traced the owner of the car, it was found out that he, Lord Commey, was the one NDC had wanted to allegedly eliminate

The REGSEC, he said, has, in light of the development, decided to provide him with armed police escorts, but he had turned down the offer, preferring to leave his fate in the hands of the Almighty God.

According to him, the armour of God is more superior to any kind of protection by man.

He initially he doesn?t want to talk about the assassination plot, because in his estimation, this is not the way politics is done.

Daily Guide has, meanwhile, also found out that NDC has told its supporters not to avail themselves of a free medical care programme, currently going on in the constituency, because it was a ploy by NPP to inject them with poisonous substances.

Thus, when the team, led by Dr Norley Ashietey, the Deputy Minister of Health, went to Sawaba and Aboabo yesterday, they found that the NDC supporters had been evacuated.

The medical programme is a project put together by Dr. Ashiettey, through which medical students tour certain communities in the country, and offer free medical care.

Using a van fitted with a PA system, NDC is said to have told its supporters simply ?Don?t go to the free medical care. If you go, you?ll die?.

Lord Commey said the medical team was not on the NPP political Platforms, adding that, ?we have not given them any party shirts, colour or paraphernalia, but NDC is doing this wicked propaganda as part of its normal diabolical design, anytime the two parties are campaigning in a crucial elections.

He maintained that he suspects the NDC intelligence has told them that they are losing the election, hence the party?s resort to such ploys, just to throw dust into the eyes of everybody.

Efforts at reaching leaders of NDC in Kumasi and Accra, proved futile as they refused to pick up their phones, when they rang.

Baba Jamal, the NDC?s deputy General Secretary, was called on three separate numbers, two being space phones, and the other being a One-Touch number.

The party?s Ashanti Regional secretary, Sly Akakpovi, was also called on a One-Touch number, without success.

He said he spotted Prof Atta Mills, the twice defeated presidential candidate of the party in the constituency, but he could not tell whether he was part of the propaganda team, which urged the residents not to go for the medical attention.

Meanwhile, The national organiser of NDC, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has stated that his party would resist any attempts by NPP to rig the Asawase by-election.

He gave the warning during the party?s last rally in the constituency, before the April 21 by-election, which was attended by a large turn-out of party faithful, from outside and inside the constituency.

Present at the rally were NDC personalities like the 2004 defeated presidential candidate, Prof Atta Mills, Mr. Kwamina Ahwoi, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Mr. Bede Ziedeng and Mr. Baba Jamal.

According to him, NDC is poised to win the polls, hands down, and that the only option open to the NPP is to steal. He assured NDC supporters, however, that a machinery has been in place to ensure that no rigging was done.

Mr. Ampofo told the people that the greatest tribute they could give to the departed MP is to vote massively for the NDC candidate, Mubarak Muntaka, adding that, this would go a long way in consoling the widow of the late MP.

Mr. Ziedeng, the acting general secretary of NDC, who spoke at the function accused NPP of dishing out money to religious leaders in the constituency, but expressed confidence that the NDC would win the seat, and go on to take the presidency in 2008.

Prof Mills who spoke briefly, thanked the supporters for their turn-out, and hoped that this would be translated into votes for the party, on Wednesday.

The NDC candidate, Mubarak Muntaka, complained about the harassment of NDC supporters by their NPP counterparts, and therefore, called on the security agencies to show neutrality in their duties.
